NO IDEA where this came from.

It was in the pitch black that they came. Desperate they were and desperation would see them through the rest of this night. They approached the ends of the cave where the forbidden trails were marked. They ignored the signs and one of them managed to disable the alarms with a single glancing blow. They were not to be stopped.

They were a pair of determined and desperate men, men with a single last ray of hope left to them. One small glimmer of light before they were completely lost to sorrow and perdition.

"Are you ready?"

"Are you?"

They entered the Deeps, side by side. They didn't have much time. Soon the alarm would sound and the guards would come. It mattered not. If this failed, they were already dead. They quickly and with the seamless efficacy of two who had worked together a very long time, set up what they would need for this.

One of them nodded to the other, it was all prepared. Now to do what none had done before. They quickly sketched out their will and one of them started the ritual chant. The other kept the beat until he saw his companion's nod.

"Call her name. Bring her back."

The man repeated her name over and over again in time to the chant by his companion as they stared at opposite ends of the bier. Slowly a queer sort of light started to fill the cavern, building more and more until it seemed to explode with a flash. Both men threw up elbows to shield their eyes. When the light faded down to a manageable level, they both half stared in shock at the body lying on the bier.

Dad got here safe and sound.

Aunt Elaine passed away last night. Which was really strange because two weeks ago, she was fine. Heck up to five days ago, she was fine.

Now she's gone and...I grew up with her kids and yeah, I knew them really well. The eldest is deployed (Marine Core), the next two boys are in college/going into college and the two youngest (both girls) are at home. Their dad now works for mine and yeah...

We're taking a bit of a beating, but we're pushing through as best we can.

Bedtime! Neal/Odessa (from that other other AU)

Odessa slipped into bed with a happy sigh. It'd been an interesting day and she was quite tired. She fell asleep almost as soon as her head hit the pillow. Neal smiled as he tiptoed in later that evening. His wife was cute all curled up on her side, sound asleep like that. He slid underneath the covers, trying not to wake her. She sleepily turned over and wrapped an arm around him. "Hi you," she sleepily murmured. He tenderly brushed some hair out of her face with one hand, "Hi. I was trying not to wake you up." He buried his nose in her hair, smelling her floral shampoo. She snuggled further into him. "'m glad you're home." She told him with a kiss before slipping back to sleep. "Me too," he whispered as he drifted off, a smile on his face and his wife curled up in his arms.

They'd just come back from dinner with her parents and her mother had ambushed him. There'd been talk about settling down and children and making an honest woman out of Dess. He'd not handled it well, flailing and grasping at anything he could think to use to get the woman to stop talking.

Odessa's brother had rescued him. Apparently he liked him, no idea why. Something about making his sister smile. Marcus had just been grateful to get away. Her mother was scary and she often had him flailing for answers, which made him feel out of control and shaky. He hated those feelings.

Dess came up behind him and wrapped her arms around him. "I'm sorry. I should have been there, but Dad was showing me something." Marcus just leaned into her not saying a thing. He didn't have to, she already knew how he felt.

He snickered to himself as they ran away from the scene. It was open warfare between the two greek societies and it'd been his idea to put a time delay on the ink bomb. Give them a chance to be seen somewhere else, good for alibis. Their fraternity was also holding a costume party, so it'd be no trouble at all to go from the dark clothes they'd worn to help conceal themselves to their costumes. This would definitely get back at them for the prank they’d pulled last week. The really brilliant thing about it? The ink stained. His crew had all worn gloves to handle and assemble the ink bombs. They’d be wearing the ink for a week if not more.

He was in an interesting situation. If interesting could really be used to define this. He was locked out of his apartment. He also was wearing nothing but his birthday suit as his son would have referred to it. Neal’d been traveling for a symposium type thing and the guys at his office had invited him out for drinks. He’d figured it couldn’t hurt and it’d keep him from moping around the apartment. The symposium was only for a week and it’d been two days since Neal’d left, but he was already missing his partner. Sleeping in the bed without him felt odd. He wasn’t fond of it. So he’d gone out with the guys. And there had been drinking and friendly inter-office dares…and tequila. He’d never had a good relationship with tequila, which was why he was here with no keys and no wallet and no clothes. He was sure that all three of those things were in one of the designated driver’s cars, but he’d yet to determine which one. He’d just wanted to get in and drown himself in a shower. He’d been beating his head lightly against the door when he’d remembered that their neighbors had been given a spare key.
He knocked on the door and Odessa answered. With a long look at him, she finally looked him in the eye and asked him with a perfectly straight face, “Can I get you something?” He was blushing, he could feel it. “Just the spare key thanks, I’m going to go drown myself in the shower.” She turned and handed it to him. “You have fun with that.” He let himself in and mentally thanked her for waiting until the door was closed to start laughing.
He was never going to live this down.
It really was.
She was getting slightly nervous about tonight. Tonight was the night that she and Nick were finally going to see if moving their relationship to the next level would work out. Actually it should have been a while ago, on her birthday day, but she'd been otherwise detained, literally.

Her mother hen of a boyfriend (what'd he do? Take lessons from Ali while she was gone?) had also insisted they wait until she was sure she was totally physically okay. Lately though, every time they'd started to get comfortable and thing were moving along at a decent pace, someone or thing interrupted them and killed the mood. Every. Single. Time.

So they had actually made plans tonight. Dinner, a late movie, and then since his mom was at a conference type thing for work (Peter was there too, which had Shiloh acting slightly odd), they were going to seal the deal then.

This was nothing that she hadn't done before, in a different body, her mind whispered, but she ignored it. She'd done this before, many dozens of hundreds of thousands of times, so why by Danu's name was she *nervous*?

She just didn't get it.

She craned her head, looking for the dark- haired Dagda.

Bea poked her twin back and pointed to where Ali was approaching them, "What'd he do to his hair?" Shiloh bit back a laugh, "Ran his fingers through it more than a few times probably."

"I need you to listen to this and tell me if it's crap." Ali explained, he saw both girls nod, taking a deep breath, he started. "When I first saw you in the restaurant that night, something about you spoke to me. You looked glorious and the surprised look in your eyes intrigued me. We got to talking and I will admit to playing the part of charming restauranteur at first, but you looked like you needed someone to talk to, so I stuck around, and then you flirted back. You flirted back and it intrigued me further and then the blueberries thing was just a wild guess, but it was a lucky one...I hadn't actually expected you to come home with me, but you did and I...I can honestly say that from the moment I saw you walking into the restaurant, I knew you'd rock my world and you have."

Bea poked her sister and mouthed "blueberry thing" with a quizzical look on her face. Shiloh waved her off, she wanted to listen more. Ali continued, eyes staring off in the distance, "I suppose what I'm really getting at is..." He dropped to one knee, "I cannot promise you that it will be an easy walk for us, I can't promise that we won't fight and occasionally want to strangle the other person. I guarantee there will be hard days and tough times. I guarantee that at some point one of us will want out of this thing. But I also know that right now if I don't ask you to be mine, I will regret it for the next six lifetimes. Because I know that no matter how screwed up things may get, you're the one I want to come home to." He pulled out the ring box. "Marie McCullough, will you marry me?" He stayed like that for a moment before jumping up and running a hand through his hair. "So what'd you think?"

Shiloh grinned, "I like it." Bea shook her head, "Longwinded, but other than that, pretty cool. You sure you want to do this? Marriage is the last legal form of slavery, you know." Ali and Shiloh just shot her bemused looks. Bea shrugged, "I'm just saying."

I really hate change

But seeing as I am both a military brat and a missionary kid...this *really* should not be news. To a certain extent, it's not either.

Shall I tell you what has prompted my latest reassertion of the fact that I truly loathe change? Well, it's a fun story.

Okay, so two years ago come this November, I was dragged to a write-in by a friend. I'd never been to any before now even having done Nano for two years (foreign country, natch), so I was a little nervous, but also excited. I had been living in the country for six months now and I was starting to come more and more out of the culture shock borne OMG This Place Is Scary and I Shall Hide Most of Me Until I Am Certain I Shall Not Be Eaten type of phase. It was fun and I got very little writing done. Now why does this particularly matter to June 2008?

Well because it was at this write-in that I met both analise and alison_sky. I met analise first and then encouraged her to drag her roommate down here. All three of us had that Well I Just Met You But I Can Already Tell You Are People of a Like Mind moment. It was glorious and hilarious and I have never been as glad to go as I was then.

We three bonded quickly and it used to be true that I spent more weekends at their place than I did at my own for the longest time.

We continued the friendship and alison_sky and I discovered a whole wealth of common subjects we adored (or mutually hated...). We were mutually corrupting influences to each other.

This kept going until 2008 when she knew she needed a new job and she started looking. Through a long process she settled on moving to Nashville in order to be closer to what she wanted to do. So since she is one of my best friends and I have the mad packing skillz, I agreed to go with her down to Nashville. So we drove down along with one of our other mutual friends scifantasy and the car trip was long and hilarious in bits.

So here we are in Nashville (which I adore because I adore the South. Sweet tea, grits, and MoonPies, oh YES) and we have moved her in and the place she's staying is gorgeous and both scifantasy and I knew the second we walked in that she was going to thrive here. All her things are now in the apartment and she has some good old friends here to help if she needs it. She's got three interviews, which is just brilliant and it looks like things really are on the up and up for her. Which makes me so happy and relieved that I just cannot fully express it.

My best friend is a force of nature sometimes, sassy and dynamic and she's a survivor. She'll be fine. She's going to take Nashville by storm, I just know it.

Tomorrow I'm going back to good old MD, with my own special crockpot of issues and a big Ali-shaped hole in my MD life. But while I am going to miss her something fierce (yes I *know* that there are these new fangled thing such as phones and internet - kinda not the same as actually having the person around) and it is goign to take some adjusting to get used to not being able to pick up the phone and go "Ali, I'm bored. Let's go out."

I'll deal with it. Cause I'm also a survivor and since I plan to come down to Nashville for spring break, I'm going to focus in on that and work my butt off to make it happen.

There ends my story for the moment.

My best friend, Ali has moved to Nashville and tomorrow I've got to go back to my weirdcrazyterrifying life without her.

So while I may hate change, this one is one that will be vastly better for her (I can see the change already - she's got a lighter spirit about her) and so I'm not going to begrudge her this happiness.

Cause I love her and she totally deserves this change. I admire her for taking a chance and committing to moving before knowing if she's got a job. Lack of security is scary and while she knows that, she's also not letting it stop her.

Which is pretty darn cool in my book.

Wizard's First Rule the Miniseries

What? *blinks*

I can't believe that they are doing a mini series on Terry Goodkind's first Sword of Truth book, Wizard's First Rule. Having read the book several times, I'm wary of what they might do to it or how certain things in the book will translate to the screen.

Also the mini-series? Being done by ABC/Disney. This has me even more worried. While Richard in the first book is not bad, these are not books I'd recommend to someone under the age of 15. My sister and I joked as we were reading the series (given to us by a dear old friend) that Richard (the main character) was essentially "an older darker version of Rand al'Thor." If you know anything about Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time, that's pretty telling in and of itself.

But yeah...I love the series, don't get me wrong. But they aren't what I'd consider kid material or even young adult material. Which makes me seriously worried about ABC/Disney's involvement with it.

Also? Being directed by Sam Raimi which while Spiderman 1 was good...well I haven't seen a lot of his stuff that I'd call really excellent. The two actors they have cast as the two leads also look nothing they'd been described at least as far as I remember them being described in the book.

The latest press release - taken from Here

Sam Raimi's 'Wizard's' lands leads
Craig Horner, Bridget Regan to star in syndicated series

By Kimberly Nordyke

May 21, 2008, 01:00 AM
NEW ORLEANS -- Craig Horner and Bridget Regan have been tapped to star in Sam Raimi's syndicated series "Wizard's First Rule," which launches in the fall.

The scripted series, an hourlong weekly from Disney-ABC Domestic Television and ABC Studios, is based on Terry Goodkind's book "Wizard's First Rule" and epic fantasy series "The Sword of Truth."

Horner will star as woodsman Richard Cypher, who transforms into a magical leader and joins with a mysterious woman named Kahlan (Regan) to stop a bloodthirsty, sinister tyrant.

Horner, an Australia native, recently co-starred on the Australian series "Blue Water High." Regan recently co-starred in the Broadway comedy "Is He Dead?"

"Wizard's" has been cleared in 95% of the country for its fall launch. Production on the 22 episodes begins this month in New Zealand.

Raimi is executive producing with Robert Tapert, Joshua Donen, Ned Nalle and John Shiban.
